If
you were to interview achievers in business, sports, the arts or any
other endeavor, and ask them to pick a single word which best
describes the reason for their success, no doubt you would hear the
word Expect repeatedly. When each of them thought about whether or
not they would be able to achieve their goal, they knew they could
and would achieve it. If you Expect Success and act accordingly, you
will achieve that success.
“You
were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare
to win, and Expect to Win.” Zig Ziglar
The
self-fulfilling prophecy of success comes to those who Expect it.
After all we tend to do those things that are in accordance with our
own expectations. As Ralph Charell said: “Nobody succeeds beyond
his or her wildest expectations unless he or she begins with some
wild expectations.”
While
the word Expect applies to how we think of ourselves, it also applies
to how we think of others. If we Expect the best in and of others,
that is likely what we will find, what we will bring out in them. How
many times have we heard the story of a child whose life was forever
changed because a teacher or a coach Expected something of them so
they pushed forward? How many times have we heard of a person who
became successful in business because someone believed in them and
Expected them to accomplish great things and so they did? What that
teacher, that coach, that mentor did is awaken the person's own
Expectations.
“Treat
a man as he is, he will remain so. Treat a man the way he can be and
ought to be, and he will become as he can be and should be.” Johann
Wolfgang von Goethe
As
a Natural Networker it has been my pleasure to connect people with
other people, projects and ideas that caused them to Expect more of
themselves. Expect Success and it will be yours.
“When
you Expect things to happen -- strangely enough -- they do happen.”
John Pierpont Morgan
Good
or not-so-good, are you aware when you get what you Expect?
